Do’s & Don’ts of AC

Florida’s Flood Season is here… which means the warm summer and coming winter are could cause some added stress on your household.  Heating and cooling isn’t a joke –   Here are some tips that might help you in the future!

Using Fans

When a person uses a fan and the Air Conditioning at the same time, it won’t necessarily lower a room’s temperature. However, when the fan is blowing air on your skin, you may feel cooler.

That usually makes it a good solution when you want to cool down without lowering the thermostat.

It doesn’t just  cool the air.

Air Conditioners condition the air. This means that it cools the air and removes humidity at the same time.

Some A/C units have a dehumidification function.

Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better results.

A big air conditioner might provide a wow effect but bigger also means it uses more energy, or gas to power it.

If an A/C unit is too big for house home, it will consume more energy to produce the same results as a unit that’s the proper size.

Do change air filters

Regularly changing the air filter  reduces wasted energy by up to 10%!

Better Ways to Save Energy

A better way to save energy is to set the thermostat to a temperature that’s about 10°F warmer than the temperature at which you feel most comfortable.

Cooling the Air

Air conditioners operate at a consistent rate to reach the temperature that you set. Lowering the thermostat to a frigid temperature won’t cool your house faster; it will just cool at the same rate and waste energy.

Turning It Off

Turning off your air conditioner when you aren’t home might seem to save energy, but it only helps if you plan to leave it off for longer periods of time. If you constantly turn off your air conditioner, when you turn it back on, the air conditioner has to work much harder to cool, and acclimate your home.
